The
New Orleans
culture still runs through my family’s veins so I grew up on red beans and rice and Saints football. Although I was born in
New Orleans
we moved to
Columbus
,
GA
when I was very young where I focused on surviving as the baby of four children, fishing, sports, and defending the Saints’ good name from Atlanta Falcons fans. The best part of
Columbus
was meeting Nicole, my high school sweetheart. Nicole and I attended
Furman
University
and then married the summer before I began my studies at the Medical College of Georgia. I know I could not be where I am today without her support and sacrifices. We have a toddler, Grace, with a spunky personality that is much larger than her two year old little body. We also claim to female toy poodles, Suzie and Rosie. Because I am grossly outnumbered by girls in my family I attempt as many “macho” activities as possible in my free time such as home improvement, barbecuing, golf, football, and watching sports. My wife and I have taken up running and water skiing. We love vacationing at the beach and are hoping to travel the world one day. Until then I am looking forward to being on the Duke emergency Medicine team and coming home to my girls.
I am a transplant from the
Midwest
,
but eager to join the Duke EM team. I grew up in
Saginaw
,
Michigan
where I spent most of my time at school or dribbling a basketball, which ultimately landed me at
Colgate
University
in upstate
New York
.
While studying molecular biology and playing basketball for Colgate, my interests in science and sports soon became intertwined and led me to do summer research internships in exercise physiology. I returned home for medical school at the
University
of
Michigan
. My fiancé and I are excited to begin our EM training in
North Carolina
at UNC and Duke. We enjoy running, biking, swimming and watching college sports (hmmm…).
I was born and grew up in
Maryville
,
Missouri
– a small college town in the northwest corner of the state. I went to college at the University of Notre Dame in
South Bend
,
Indiana
. After college, I started medical school at the
University
of
Iowa
in
Iowa City
. During my pediatric rotation in medical school, I was fortunate enough to meet my beautiful wife, Karen. We got married the day after I graduated from medical school; she is now a nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Duke. In addition to my training in emergency medicine, I hope to gain some exposure to the field of sports medicine. I couldn’t be more excited about the next three years of learning Emergency Medicine and the opportunity to train at Duke!
Although I was born in
Taipei
, home to me is Palos Verdes in southern
California
, where my family moved to when I was ten years old and where I grew up during my formative years. I first came to
North Carolina
as a Duke undergrad. Since then I have accumulated four more years at
Wake
Forest
for
Medical
School
and another year at
East Carolina
for PGY1 in EM. Yall can say I am accustomed to sweet tea and bar b q. Obviously I was a Cameron Crazy while in college and a fan of Duke basketball for life. My other hobbies include surfing, playing the cello, and going to baseball games. Coming back to Duke is a great feeling. I have many fond memories of my time spent here, and it’s all a bit surreal now to be back as a resident. I am thrilled to be part of the Duke community again as I complete my PGY training here at Duke.
I was born in the Bronx,
New York
. When I was young my family and I moved between
Florida
and
New York
several times finally settling in
Florida
where I attended high school. Throughout high school I raced motocross professionally and later attended
Florida
State
University
where I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. I worked as an Aerospace engineer at Pratt & Whitney for 7 years before deciding it was time for a change. I then attended the
University
Of
Vermont College Of Medicine
Of
where I quickly developed an interest in Emergency Medicine. I consider myself a sports fanatic; I love all sports however mountain bike racing and racquetball are my sports. My wife Allison and I are very excited about becoming a member of the Duke Emergency Medicine family.
I was born in
Iowa City
,
Iowa
and moved to
Ocala
,
FL
by the age of two. My family wasn’t such a big fan of the Midwestern winters, but I’m still a loyal Hawkeye fan and will never miss an opportunity to root them on. After being raised in
Ocala
, I decided to attend the
college
of
William
& Mary in
Virginia
. Those four years in
Virginia
were great, but I was unsure of medicine until graduation. I spent the next few years taking pre-med requirements and then teaching high school Algebra and Biology. All the hard work paid off as I then became a Gator and attended the University of Florida College of Medicine and was able to enjoy two national basketball championships and one football!! I’m hoping I can bring that good luck up to Duke. I consider myself very laid-back and relaxed, but get me around a good football or basketball game and I’m known to get quite animated. I’m an avid sports fan and love the outdoors (hiking, skiing, camping, biking), traveling and occasionally reading a book.
Hi! I grew up in the suburbs of
Detroit
and then came to NC for college (Duke). I couldn’t fight the beaches, the early spring weather, and the really nice people and so have been here ever since. I have a fantastic husband who knows to feed me chocolate when I’m stressed, I’m a dedicated Cameron Crazy (I can even do the Rock Lobster dance during the second half TV timeout), and I love discussing esoteric aspects of emergency medicine. My cooking is getting better and better, and my specialty is desserts, so come over for dinner sometime!
Not long after being born in
Mesa
,
AZ
, I was moved to a cooler clime and soon called the Rocky Mountains of Utah home. There, I was raised amongst the towering peaks that surrounded me and developed a love for adventure and the outdoors. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to enjoy some of the best backpacking, camping, and snowboarding in the country. I also spent time traveling and living in
Amsterdam
for several years as a missionary, the Middle East as a student, and
South Africa
as a researcher. I met my wonderful wife, Kristy, at a hospital where we both worked as phlebotomists. Our oldest son, Ayden, joined the family shortly after we were married. I went to college at
Brigham
Young
University
where I majored in Neuroscience and Economics before uprooting my young family and moving to
New York City
. I attended Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons for medical school and our second son, Hudson, was born on the river that bears his name. We have loved
New York
but are excited to leave the big city and make
Durham
home. Our energetic boys are eager to run around in open, grassy spaces and I am thrilled to be able to work in a great ED amongst wonderful people.
I grew up in the mountains of Jackson Hole, Wy, skiing at age 2 and snowboarding at age 8. I fell in love with climbing and mountaineering despite a great family experience during the summers of windsurfing on Jackson Lake. My passion for action, adventure, and adrenaline really began at age 16 and continued into my final year of medical school when I spent 6 weeks on an expedition climbing in Patagonia, Argentina. Boulder, CO was a great place for college and climbing and many of my closest friends still reside there. I focused my studies on biology, while continuing to hone my skills on the rocks at a diverse range of sites from Utah to California, but most notably the famous Eldorado canyon, and the awe inspiring Diamond face of Longs Peak which stands over 14,000ft. After college, moving to California and teaching, I began learning to surf on the beaches of sunny so-cal, where an interest in kiteboarding rapidly developed, which took me to Texas and back before settling in Durham, where I am super-psyched to be among great doctors and amazing people. Oh, and I can't forget Philly! I lived there just one year when I met the woman who would change my life...
