Overview

The Application Process

Interviews are granted by invitation only after a review of application materials submitted to the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We will be conducting interviews on Tuesdays, and the dates for 2009/10 are:

November 10, 17, 24

December 1,10, 15

January 12, 19, 26

We will be interviewing candidates in 2 groups, a morning session that will go from 8AM to 1 PM and an afternoon session that will go from 11AM to 5 PM. All candidates are encouraged to attend the dinner with the residents the night before, and then all will regroup at a program overview and lunch with the program director and residents. Please plan to arrive in the Duke University Medical Center Emergency Department waiting room by 7:50 a.m. for the morning group and 10:50 a.m. for the afternoon session on your interview day. We will meet you in Emergency Department waiting room and escort you to Room 2619 on the second floor of the Emergency Department where your day will begin. A light continental breakfast for the morning group and lunch for all will be provided. Please let me know if you will need a vegetarian meal.

The day consists of interviews, a tour of the facilities at Duke, a program overview and lunch. During lunch, you will have the opportunity to meet with emergency medicine residents. Please call 919-681-2247 for more information.

Format of the Interview Day

Getting to Duke

If you are flying to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, the closest airport is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), located in the Research Triangle Park between Raleigh and Durham. The airport is approximately 15 minutes from Duke. Cabs and rental cars are available at the airport.

If you are driving, I-85 and I-40 are the two main interstate highways that lead to Duke. Detailed Directions to Duke are provided.

Parking at Duke North

Duke North Hospital Parking
The parking deck for Duke University Hospital is located across Erwin Road from the hospital.
The parking deck for Duke University Hospital has an underground walkway and shuttle service to the hospital. The shuttle terminal is located on the "RT" level of the Duke University Hospital parking deck. Also on the "RT" level is a well-lit, securely monitored underground walkway to the hospital.
A second parking deck (Parking Garage III) is available for Duke Hospital Parking as well as for the Ambulatory Surgical Center and Bone Marrow Transplant Center. This garage is attached to North Pavilion Building off Fulton Road, about three blocks from the main Duke Hospital Entrance.

Oversized Vehicles
Parking for oversized vehicles is located adjacent to the Duke University Hospital parking deck. To obtain a pass for an oversized vehicle, call (919) 684-5773.

Parking Fees
Hospital parking fees are based on an hourly rate (currently, $1/hour).

Administrative Offices

The Emergency Medicine Administrative Offices are located at Duke North in Suite 2600, above the Emergency Department. If you have any trouble locating the hospital, please call Kim Brown at 919-681-2247 or page her at 919-970-1110 and she will be happy to assist you.
